I added one of my old fiddle tunes to my website. It's called "The Sailmaker's Cat". I found it recently in my music files and remembered that it was one that I liked. It has a playful spirit. However, the tune has not been recorded...or even performed! It's been sitting in my files since 1991. Fiddler friends are welcome to give it a try. http://www.rogeraldridge.com/the-sailmakers-cat.html

These are some of my original sambas. For many years, I've been a fan of using a violin in a contemporary jazz ensemble.
These are some of my original tangos. The ensemble uses violin, keyboards (with accordion patch), guitar, and bass.
These original fiddle tunes are a mix of ones that draw upon traditional styles and ones that are a blend of jazz and fiddle. Hope you enjoy them!
Donut Music is an extended piece for solo guitar that draws upon various roots-based music styles. The guitarist is Keith Calmes.

I am a Maryland-based composer whose music draws upon a wide range of influences around a core of Jazz and American Roots Music. While I am a woodwind player, I have a deep attraction to the violin. Quite a few of my pieces were written with the violin in mind. I discovered jazz when I was 8. It was love at first note. From that moment, music has been a life-long journey of continuing discovery. When I first heard old-time fiddle players in West Virginia I was deeply impressed with their drive, swing, and feeling. It was easy for me to envision the music as being an early branch of the jazz family tree. Now, I find that looking ahead to New Music and looking back to Roots Music are equally creative and exciting. My fiddle tunes may come as a surprise to those who are familiar with my jazz writing. Some of these tunes were written to sound traditional (more or less). However, others have touches of contemporary jazz mixed with fiddle styles...often with a personal blend of quirky humor. Independent artist. A selection of my music is licensed through Directional Music (New York City) and Zudo Music (Santa Fe). As you listen to the recordings of my originals, if there are tunes that you especially like please let me know and I'll be happy to send copies of the music. I'm looking for more musicians and ensembles to discover and perform this music.
