Yuma details and upcoming schedule

Posted by fiddledan on Tuesday, May 5, 2009

Hi Folks,

Yes, it is true. Looks like we are going to be based here in Yuma, Arizona for the forseable future. After 15 years full time on the road with Airstream trailer in tow, we have decided to "settle down" for at least a little while. Miss Jennifer got an offer here that was, well, too good to pass up and having spent several winters here we feel that for now it is the right move. (That makes 5 moves this winter in case you have been counting and our mail is just starting to catch up. I'm sorry if you have an order that has gotten trapped in the mail loop. Feel free to contact me if this has happened to you).

In any case, we are settling in nicely in a little community named Tuscany and our place (photo above) is a nice little 2 bedroom, two bath house with space for an office. Great place and lovely folks here who seem to enjoy old time music too. Let's us have a bit of breathing room where I can write, cook, relax and, yes, travel from.

We get right into it this week with our trip up to Pegosa Springs, Colorado for a concert on Saturday evening. I'll be flying from there to Ohio to pick up our other car and some things from the Hippie-billy Homestead, followed by a stop in Pittsburgh to see my grandson and family there before a leasurly drive back to Yuma.

The west is already starting to fill in for me as well. I have just confirmed a Clawdan weekend of June 6 and 7 at Old Time Music in San Diego. I'll be doing a Fiddle From Scratch in the morning Clawhammer Banjo From Scratch the afternoon of the 6th with a concert that evening. Sunday we'll do a more advanced clawhammer banjo workshop. We are talking about doing a weekly lesson gig there also so let me know if you would be interested in regular lessons there.

Summer is just coming on line now, and we are still figuring out our logistics, but I will be back east for Clawcamp East and Clifftop. Let me know if you are interested in scheduling something on route east in July. Clawcamp East is about half full so don't wait too long if you are on that fence. Bob Carlin joins us this year and we have rented the wonderful facilities of Fur Peace Ranch over in Miegs county. Then we head back to Arlington, Texas (Dallas) again for this year's Acoustic Music Camp before coming back to Yuma for what we are told is the hottest part of the year.

In the midst of our summer schedule I have made it a priority to get the "advanced" fiddle versions of the Old Time Festival Tunes books recorded and to Mel Bay for posting on the download site there. Keep an eye out for those but figure late summer or early fall to see them on line. I'll let you know here as always.

Finally, I'm working on another book series with Bob Carlin. For now I'll only tell you that it will be some great standards tabbed out multiple ways and that we hope to have at least a preview copy of our first volume by Clifftop.

I suspect that is enough info for now, so stay tooned and...

Play nice!
