Would appreciate an MP3 of Joe Pancerzewski playing Daly's reel, and or history of the tune, or at least
from whom Joe Greene learned it.
Thanks, Jacques

I may be wrong, but it seems like the tune came from here before Kenny Baker and Joe Pancerzerwski fiddled it and fancied it up.

Joe Greene likely learned it from Mr Baker.
It's possible they learned it from Joe P. He was active fiddling in contests in the NW after he retired from the railroad in 1970. Before working in the railroad Joe, born 1905, was a busy fiddler. Here's some info about him voyagerrecords.com/LN341.htm

I've heard several tunes which are quite like Daly's Reel as played by Kenny Baker on the "Farmyard Swing" LP, which can be heard on Youtube. My favorite is Clyde Durst's Tune, played in C by NW Missouri fiddler Cyril Stinnett in a field recording which can be heard here:

A good transcription of Stinnett's rendition of Clyde Durst's Tune can be found in the first volume of Stacy Philips' book "The Philips Collection of Traditional American Fiddle Tunes".

quote:The "Daly's reel" written by Jos Daly, and played by Van Eps is an unrelated tune to the one in Bb from KB and JP. Make a search even more confusing
