I've volunteered to sell a donated violin as a fundraiser for our church in the U.S. It comes in a case with a horse hair? bow and has a label on the inside that reads, "No. 134 Made expressly for William Lewis and Son Chicago, Illinois in Mittenwald Germany." What I know of its history is that in the 1960s it was purchased secondhand and used as a practice violin by a young gal/sister to a member of our church. Eventually, when the sister upgraded to a different violin, this one was donated to our church. Strings are missing so it needs restoration. A local instrument store owner sd he would sell it for about 800 in his store and that the bow was really the most valuable part. I will try to post photos and I welcome any guidance... the proceeds support our food pantry and other ministries so we're hoping to sell well. Thank you in advance.

Figure on half of retail. So about $400. Consider selling the bow separately if it is as good as the shop owner says.

Condition matters a lot when it comes to sale value. How are the pegs, bridge etc? Any open seams? There isn't high demand for these fiddles, so even at the aforementioned $400, you may need to patiently wait for a buyer. And you might need to sink some money into maintenance before it would sell at all.

Thanks everyone. Someone from this group is purchasing the violin/case. Very exciting for our church. Now to research the bow.
